Women In Sport 

With International Women's Day around the corner, here is a list of some of the most influential female Athletes: 

Jessica Ennis-Hill 

Ennis-Hill is a heptathlon athlete who represented England multiple times. She is a 3-time world champion, 2010 European champion and 2012 Olympic champion. 

Serena Williams 

Williams is regarded as the greatest female tennis player. She holds a combined 39 major titles, placing her joint third on the all-time list and second in the Open Era for total major titles.

Simone Biles

Biles is an 11x Olympic medal winner which includes 7x gold. Holding 30 championship medals, this makes her the most decorated gymnast in history. 

Alex Morgan 

She is regarded as one of the most prolific strikers of her generation. She scored 217 goals in 439 appearances for club and country. She holds an Olympic gold medal from the 2012 London Games.  and a colossal amount of individual awards. 

Alexia Putellas

The current captain of Barcelona F holds two Ballon d'Ors, 8x Liga F titles and 3x Women's Champions League. Being the Spain W captain, she holds 1x Women's World Cup and 1x Women's Nation league titles. 453 appearances with a large number coming in wins. 

 

Megan Rapinoe  

Rapinoe holds a strong stack of awards, which feature two women's World Cups, where she won the Golden Ball as well as the Golden Boot. In 2019 following her World Cup winning season, she would be handed the Ballon d'Or Féminin. 

Caitlin Clark

Clark is a basketball phenom known for her scoring and playmaking abilities. At the University of Iowa, she averaged 28.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.1 rebounds over 139 games, becoming the NCAA's all-time leading scorer. In 2024, Clark was drafted first overall by the Indiana Fever, earning WNBA Rookie of the Year and All-WNBA honours.

Ronda Rousey 

'Rowdy' Ronda Rousey, a former UFC and WWE champion, was the first female UFC bantamweight champion with a 12-2 MMA record. She won an Olympic judo bronze in 2008 and multiple WWE titles, revolutionising women's combat sports.

Mia Hamm,

A footballing legend, she scored 158 international goals in 276 games for the U.S. She won two World Cups in 1991 and 1999 and two Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2004, earning FIFA World Player of the Year twice in 2001 and 2002.

Billie Jean King

A tennis icon, King won 39 Grand Slam titles, including 12 singles titles. She led the fight for gender equality in sports, famously defeating Bobby Riggs in 1973's "Battle of the Sexes" and co-founding the Women's Tennis Association.

Jackie Joyner-Kersee

One of the greatest female athletes, won six Olympic medals including 3x gold medals in heptathlon and long jump. She set the heptathlon world record of 7,291 points in 1988 and earned four World Championship titles, dominating track and field.

Mikaela Shiffrin

Shiffrin is an American alpine skier who has achieved unprecedented success. As of February 23, 2025, she has secured 100 World Cup victories. Her accolades include two Olympic gold medals, seven World Championship titles, and five overall World Cup championships

The change is women's professional sports have changed massively in the past decade now more than ever, with more coverage and better service to their sports. 

The legends of women's professional sports stand out as icons who help drive young women to pursue a career in professional sports and work hard to make women's sports grow and become more popular.
